Belly & baby-shower henna in Montréal
Salam — carrying a baby is its own kind of ceremony, and I love getting to mark it on your skin. Belly henna is a slow, gentle hour: natural paste only, a calm room, and a design that curves with your bump and reads beautifully in photos. Whether it's for a baby shower, a quiet moment to yourself, or the Maghrebi henné du 7e mois, the stain tells the story.
A calm hour, natural paste only
For an expecting mother I only ever use my natural paste — henna powder, lemon, sugar, and skin-safe oils like cajeput and lavender. Nothing chemical, no PPD, ever. It's the same gentle mix I trust on kids and sensitive skin. If you'd like, I'll do a small patch test a day or two ahead so you can wear it with an easy mind. The session itself is unhurried: somewhere calm, you comfortable, and me drawing a design that follows the curve of your bump.
The henné du 7e mois
In many Maghrebi families, henna around the seventh month — le henné du 7e mois — is a way of blessing the mother and the baby to come. If that's your tradition, I'd be honoured to be part of it. And if it isn't, it's just as lovely as a quiet celebration of where you are: a soft, symbolic design for you, or a warm afternoon with friends at a baby shower.
Timing it for your shower
Most mothers book somewhere around 28 to 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you're still comfortable sitting for a while. For events, reach out a few weeks ahead so we can hold your date. The stain starts orange and deepens to a rich maroon-brown over 24 to 48 hours, then lasts one to two weeks — so for the deepest colour in your photos, we apply a day or two before the shower. For solo sessions I'll meet you at a café near me or near you; for a shower I come to you. I serve Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, Brossard, and the West Island (Dollard-des-Ormeaux). Price is quoted after we talk through your date and design; a deposit holds your slot and the balance is due on the day.
Common questions
- Is henna safe while I'm pregnant?
- Natural henna is — the caution you've heard about is for chemical "black henna" with PPD, which I never use. My paste is just henna powder, lemon, sugar, and skin-safe oils, the same mix I trust on kids and sensitive skin. I'll happily do a patch test a day or two before if you'd like extra reassurance. And if your pregnancy is high-risk or you have any concerns, a quick word with your doctor first is always fine by me.
- When in my pregnancy should I book?
- Most people come in the third trimester, roughly 28 to 36 weeks, when the bump is nice and round. For the Maghrebi henné du 7e mois it's traditionally around the seventh month. Sitting comfortably matters more than an exact week — we'll find a time that feels good for you.
- What's the henné du 7e mois?
- It's a Maghrebi tradition of applying henna around the seventh month of pregnancy to celebrate and bless the mother and the baby on the way. I'd be honoured to mark it with you — and if it's not your custom, belly henna is just as meaningful simply as a way to celebrate this season.
- How long will it last for my baby shower photos?
- The design starts orange and deepens to maroon-brown over the first day or two, then holds for one to two weeks. For the richest colour in your photos, I like to apply it one to two days before the shower. Leave the paste on for four to eight hours, gently scrape it off rather than washing, and keep the skin dry for the first 24 hours.
